How Much Does It Cost?
The IAM's Skill for Life package costs £139. It may sound a lot, but regard it as a lifetime investment in your
driving skills. It's a small amount when you compare it to the annual cost of running your car.
Will It Save Me Money?
In a word, yes. Some insurance companies give a discount to drivers who have passed the Advanced Test.
You are also more likely to build up a no-claims bonus using the advanced driving techniques we show you.
Your car will return better mpg when you use a smoother driving technique and your brakes and tyres will last longer.
Which Insurance Companies Give Discounts?
It's always worth asking your existing insurer but the IAM recommends IAM Surety Insurance,
offered exclusively to IAM members aged 19 or over via Adelaide Insurance.

How Do I Join?
New Associate Members are always welcome. Make your way to the car park near Aldi and Iceland
in the centre of Warrington at about 10am on a Sunday morning
and look for the IAM caravan. Come in and introduce yourself to one of the Associate Coordinators there.
We can explain in detail how the Skill for Life scheme works. You don't have to commit yourself there and then
- you can just have a trial run to see what it's all about and see if it's for you.
When you decide to sign up, you'll need your driving licence, your certificate of insurance
and your car's MOT certificate (if applicable). We can take payment by cheque, credit/debit card or in cash.
Applying For Test
Your Associate pack includes a test application form. We will tell you when we consider you are ready for test.
When you are filling it in, please remember to include our Group Number (5075) so that your test
pass can be correctly attributed to our group. When Head Office receive your test application, they will allocate
it to one of the examiners in our area and he will contact you directly in order to arrange a mutually convenient date and time.
Please tell us when your test date is arranged so that we can make sure you are well prepared.
And don't forget to tell us the result - the examiner isn't allowed to.
If you've mislaid the form, there's an online version on the IAM website which you can use instead. Please note that you will have to login first. Your username is your membership number prefixed by a lower-case 'm'. Your initial password is your surname (all in lower case), but you can change the password later if you wish.
DVD & Video Loan
We have a selection of DVDs and VHS videos on motoring topics available for free loan, including the excellent Roadcraft.
If you'd like to borrow one, please see Carlo Marrow. Carlo is at the caravan most Sundays or can be contacted on 07882 425811.
We do ask for a returnable £10 deposit on the Roadcraft DVD.
Access to Members' Area on IAM website
IAM members and associates can access the Members' Area on the IAM website
(click here), where you can update your details or renew your membership.
To log in for the first time, enter your IAM membership number as the username and your surname as the password. You can change the password once
you have logged in, if you wish.
